Memory
We've talked about progression through postcount and Digivolution levels before on site, but that's just one of the big two methods of character advancement present on site. The other method is our on-site shop, which as of this writing is filled out with 100 different items (and more to come in the future!) These range from little gadgets that help flavor and flesh out your character to upgrades on your Digimon's very core processes. While we don't expect you to collect them all, we'd like to think there's something for everyone in the shop, and we're always up for hearing suggestions if there are any spots we've missed.
Items are purchased with Memory. It's more of an out-of-character construct than an in-character resource, but think of it as the data and potential that your character has accumulated throughout their time on site. We're pretty flexible on explanations as to how you've obtained your items. Maybe your Digivice has developed a new functionality in a time of need. Maybe you've purchased them from a shady Digimon that's wormed its way into our world's marketplaces. Maybe you've hacked some consumer goods to try and keep up with all of the digital oddities cropping up as of late. Similarly, we're very flexible about the form an item takes. While obviously, we'd prefer you keep to the base idea of the item, the specifics of appearance are completely up to you. Your Flight DigiModify card can be a Terriermon's big, goofy ears, or the precise and speedy wingbeats of a Wingdramon. When in doubt, do what fits your character best! Feel free to place these details in your character's Inventory thread.
All items can be accessed through the site shop. You'll find this in the bottom right corner of the screen; it resembles a door with a little red and white awning.
Alternatively, you can follow the following link: Site Shop.
Types of Items
Currently, there are six classes of items on site:
Process Improvements are direct, permanent changes to your Digimon's functionality. For the most part, these are extra Digivolutions or moves for your Digimon to utilize. However, there are a few other entries to this list, including a pair of items that may be of interest to the site's most notorious villains. Unlike most items, these cannot be traded or refunded, so choose carefully!
Digivice Applications are additional functions that your character's Digivice can utilize. Wandering Digimon are also capable of accessing these, with the apps being installed directly into their core. You can only have one Digivice Application active at a time, so be careful how and when you utilize them. Knowing when to switch between your apps often marks the difference between a good tamer and a great one.
DigiModify Cards change your Digimon's code temporarily, allowing them to use abilities they'd otherwise never be capable of. These can change your Digimon's size, movement, and fighting aptitude, and a precious few have some truly unique effects. By default, we flavor these as cards used in similar vein to Digimon Tamers, but if you prefer these can also be flavored as data memory sticks, programs, or any other method of your choosing. You can only have one DigiModify card active at a time.
Self Defense items are geared towards allowing your character to fight back. You may be human, but you aren't helpless! For the most part, these items are more about distraction, disabling, and keeping your character safe, with minor offensive utility at best. However, I'd keep an eye on this section. As the site's stakes start to get higher, new innovations in this category may appear . . .
Finally, Gadgets and Gear is the catch-all category for other on site items. Unlike Digivice Applications and Cards, there are no usage limits on these, and you don't require a Digivice to utilize any of them. That makes this section ideal for Civilians and characters who don't want to be solely reliant on their Digivice to function.
How To Get More
With 100 items, you might be a little intimidated wondering how to buy them all. Fortunately, we've got you covered. There are a multitude of ways to get more memory and buy more items.
#1: Just Post! Each post on site comes with 50 memory. This number doubles if you're the one making the thread, giving you a cool 100 memory instead. Even our social media threads give an abridged amount, about 1/10th of these numbers, to reflect that you're still writing and posting in character.
#2: App a Character! When you create a character, you get 1,000 memory to spend on starting items for them. You don't need to spend it all right away, but consider this your chance to give your character a few apps or pieces of gear to set them apart at the start.
#3: Complete Threads! When you complete a thread, you'll get an extra 25 memory for every post you've made in the thread. Think of this as an incentive to see every thread you're in to the finish, rather than letting them drop. Just post in the Moderation Station and we'll get you your bonus memory.
If someone does drop a thread, and therefore you can't complete the thread, don't fret. Post in the Moderation Station and we'll still redeem the memory for every post you've made so far. You will never be penalized for someone else's disappearance.
#4: Investigate a Rumor! The Rumor Board contains player-run mini-events, often highlighting strange occurrences that have been happening around Lumen City and its surrounding areas. These are worth rewards upon completion, so investigating them can be very profitable. Please see the Rumor reward thread for specifics.
#5: Writing Prompts! We'll be hosting occasional writing prompt threads, both to give you new chances to explore your characters and to give you a chance to flex your writing muscles. Sometimes these'll be brief questions about your characters. At other times they'll be entire mini-stories. They may even end up completely unrelated! Rewards for these vary based on the prompts given, so keep an eye out to see what's coming up!
#6: Explore the Site! When you first join the site, you'll get bonus to a few bingo cards designed to get you exploring the various areas the site has to offer. Currently there are two on offer, one for Rookie level and one for Champion level. As the site expands and unfolds, expect more of these to be unlocked.
Rookie Bingo CardFor the Rookie bingo card, every completed row (vertical, horizontal, or diagonal!) will give you 250 memory. Completing the whole card will give you an extra 500 memory. Champion Bingo CardFor the Champion bingo card, every completed row (vertical, horizontal, or diagonal!) will give you 300 memory. Completing the whole card will give you an extra 600 memory.
You only get access to these cards once, so make sure you make them count. There may be future ones offered during site events as well to help guide you in exploring them, so stay tuned!
#7: More to Come! These are a lot of methods already established, but don't think these are the only ones. There have rumors of a far-off colosseum where you can be on battles, for example, but for the time being these are exactly that: rumors. Keep an eye out to see what other methods of getting memory end up unlocking.
