When the weather changed drastically, allowing some respite from the unpleasant humidity people had been experiencing in Goldenview, Kittsunami the Spadamon enjoyed it. From what he’s seen from observing humans, heat made people snappy and irritable; this cooler weather, with the bright clear sky, meant everyone was at an ideal temperature, and therefore cheerful and accommodating. He was also able to sleep better because of the cooler temperature. And what better way to spend his time by finding something to eat.
The forests near Lake Bounty have been the Spadamon’s home for the last couple of days. Ever since he met Skadi, Toki, Setsuna, and Aylin, Kitt has been extremely grateful to meet such nice Digimon—Digimon that welcomed him with open arms. And although he’s used to being by himself, it would take quite some time for him to be comfortable around them to allow him to open up his feelings. He still harbored a deep emotional pain that he could barely understand, alongside a desire to return to the Digital World. For what reasons, he didn’t know.
Arriving at Lake Bounty, Kitt sat down at the end of one of the many fishing docks, partially shaded underneath a large tree. He had his makeshift fishing rod settled in his lap, and a small container meant for his catches beside him. The grass here was long, so Kitt thought it was perfect for him to drop out of his invisibility form and manifest into his physical form. Setsuna advised him to keep in his invisibility form whenever he’s near humans to prevent him scaring anyone, which took a while to wrap his head around. It was awkward enough for the few humans that he saw reacted in confusion seeing a floating stick with a string and a bucket along the trail, but as long as they didn’t see him, it was alright.
Taking out the fish bait that Toki gave to him, Kitt reacted in disgust, sticking his tongue out. So this was the “bait” that humans use in order to catch fish…kind of nasty! Quickly putting the bait on the end of his line, he cast the line a few feet into the water. With a relaxed sigh, he looked up at the cloudless sky. He couldn’t wait to reel in his first fish and some more. Skadi and Toki would be so amazed!

"Come onnnn."
"No."
"Pretty please?"
"Not in a million years."
This stubborn back and forth had been going on for the better part of ten minutes, whining goading and complaining from one voice being quickly and curtly shut down by a second every single time. To any casual listeners there wasn't much to make of it, just the petty squabbling of what sounded like two kids or maybe teens, always in the distinctive tone and candence one would expect of two siblings. To anyone that went out in the direction of the whining or knew better they would find out that...well, not much really, it was exactly that: two brothers arguing over insignificant things. Really, the only thing worthy of note was the fact they weren't humans, but if one was in the know about the events happening around the city for a couple weeks by now, it wouldn't even be that surprising, just two digimons bickering over...what exactly?
"The water's not so cold today, I promise!" The black guilmon said, tugging at the arm of his impmon sibling after each word, but no matter how much he pulled the purple devil wouldn't get up from his comfortable spot under the shade of a tree.
"And? I told you I don't care. One bath was enough and that's final." He declared, glaring daggers at the lizard as he pulled his arm back out of Gio's grip, going cross armed and trying to shove himself even further into the shade. His taller sibling let out a huff, ears and tail drooping sadly as he gave Dio one last pleading look. The self proclaimed Dark Lord was not impressed by this tired display. "You know that only works on weak willed humans and maybe Bellamy, right?" He spat back, a bit of a half lie as that look had worked on him more than once before, but not this time. Not over a dip in what the imp assumed could only be a freezing lake, that was not a hill worth dying for.
Gio's pleading look turned into an annoyed scowl, having been foiled by his brother's lack of sentimentality, or maybe over exposure to his "dejected puppy" look. No matter, he didn't need his approval to have fun on his own. "Fine! But I'm going anyways."
"Have fun." The imp replied half heartedly with a wave of his hand, to which the lizard simply stomped away dramatically, as if being loud was his way of having the last word. He made his way to the lake Bounty and stopped at the shore, carefully dipping his tail into it. Yup, still pretty cold, but not freezing cold! After taking a couple steps back he broke into a sprint and, without a moment's hesitation he jumped into the water making a loud splash. He liked being in the water, there were so few lakes back in the Dark Area that weren't already overrun by ravenous aquatic digimon looking for an easy meal, so of course he relished these oportunities to for once be the bigger fish in a small pond.
Speaking of which there were plenty of fishes to go around here! Yet despite his best efforts he wasn't exactly the best swimmer, so each attempt at catching one was met with equal failure. Just as he was about to give up on a potential snack however he'd eventually come to a conspicuously still fish hanging somewhat close to the shore. It didn't seem to be staying still but rather as if it was pulling away from somewhere, like some invisible force was trying to reel him in. Well, this was such an easy target it'd be dumb not to go for it! So that's what he did, swimming behind it as stealthily as he could, before taking a singular bite into the aquatic denizen and not letting go, lest the slippery bastard escape like the rest.

“Woah!” Kitt jumped a bit in surprise as he felt something tugging the line beneath the waters. This was his first catch of the day. He gripped his makeshift rod and began to pull as hard as he could, gritting his teeth. “This feels like a big one,” he said. It felt heavy, really heavy; Setsuna never said that fish like this exist in Lake Bounty. No matter. A fish this big would mean a whole-hearty and satisfying dinner for everyone back in the woods, so he wasn’t going to dare let this one get away.
Now standing up, Kitt began to reel it in, slowly and carefully to prevent the fish from getting away with the lure, or breaking the line. Using what Toki taught him, he guided his rod in the direction of where the fish was going, allowing him to easily reel it in closer and closer to him. But atlas, his advantage wouldn’t last long. The fish would prove to be too much for him the moment he began to lift up, losing his grip of his fishing rod and falling on his rump.
The Spadamon didn’t have time to sigh in disappointment, as his fishing rod inched closer off to the edge of docks. “Oh no!” His gold-yellow eyes widened, and with haste, he jumped to grab his fishing rod, not wanting it to sink into the waters below. Toki made this for him, so he did not want to lose it.
Inching closer to the edge, Kitt regretted not letting the fish go when he had the chance; it was trying to drag him under as well. Attempting to untie the lure, Kitt couldn’t help but eye at the waters, and to his shock, it was not a fish, rather a large black reptile with bat-like eyes sticking out of the water with a long tail swishing like crazy.
“A Digimon?!” He exclaimed. “H-Hey, excuse me! Can you please let go of my lure? It’s not really a fish…I think…”

Surprisingly enough, despite it's small size it seemed the fish was ready to fight back and for a moment, it seemed he could win, seeing how no matter how strongly the guilmon pulled back the small prey didn't seem to move from it's spot. "Damn it, come on mister fish!" He mentally cursed with a small underwater growl, like a puppy tearing at a pair of nice sneakers. Had Gio been less focused on the thrill of the hunt however, relishing in his "brilliant" sneaking tactics and catching such a good if stubborn snack, he might have noticed faster how the surface began getting closer, or rather that both him and prey were moving. He was slow on the uptake however, and by the time he realized his situation he was now halfway surfacing, his eyes blinking in surprise as the water gave way to fresh air, once dilated pupils slowly going back to their slit like shape.
"Huh?" He finally lifted his head slightly above the water, looking around in confusion. It was then he heard someone seemingly adressing him. He finally looked up, finding a surprised looking Spadamon gazing at him from some docks above the water. He was holding onto a long stick of some sort, a thin string on the end connecting it to the lure he had been fighting with this whole time. The ceaseless swishing of his tail ceased as he finally put one and one together...well this was embarrassing.
"Oh...oh! S-sorry!" He quickly apologized, letting go and throwing it back up the docks where the spadamon was. "I had no idea mister, sorry! I tried to get some lunch but none of the fishes would let me catch them and yours looked...well, easy to catch." He explained himself to the best of his ability, hoping the furry digimon wouldn't be mad at him for ruining his fishing trip.

Kitt couldn’t help but blink nervously. He couldn’t believe that he was reeling in a Guilmon, and a big one at that! Instead of being scared like he usually would be, he can sense that the Digimon had no malicious intent. A small smile crossed his lips followed by a slight chuckle as he caught the line. “I-It’s alright, sir,” he replied. “I got more of this ‘bait’ to catch the fish, so you can have it if you want.” He scratched the back of his head. “Though if you’re looking to catch anything here, with the way you’re doing it, that might take awhile unfortunately. From what I’ve been taught, these fish are known to swim away at the first sight of trouble, so with your size, you’re like a big warning sign to them.”
He began to ponder in thought for a minute. This Guilmon was looking for food, just like he was. So what not better way to help him get some food. It’s the least he can do. Similar to how Skadi and Toki helped him, he thought that he could do the same thing—to the best of his ability that is.
“Well…since we’re after the same thing, I can help you catch a few fish if you’d like,” he said. “I thought the only Digimon in this forest were me and a few of my friends I’m staying with.” He sat back down, scooting to the right side of the edge of the dock, offering him some room to sit if he so desired.
His nervous expression then turned soft. “M-my name is Kittsunami. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

"Huh, no wonder it was so easy." Gio replied, scratching the back of his head. In hindsight, it should have been obvious bait, but he was so desperate to catch anything it clearly never crossed his mind. He didn't seem too conflicted about this at least, as he soon let out a chuckle of his own at his expense. "Guess that's really good bait then, it worked on me!"
What the spadamon told him was deeply troubling however: if they were this smart, how was he ever supposed to hunt any fish? He wasn't nearly fast enough to catch them, much less catch them by surprise. Damn it, if only he could throw fire as easily as his brother could, all he'd have to do was make the lake hot enough to cook the fishes before he even had to catch them! There were a lot of possible holes with that plan of course, but Gio had never been exactly one to worry about worst case scenarios. Just as he was about to look for an alternative solution, the white lion offered him a very tempting deal.
"Y-you would?" He asked, eyes brimming with emotion and glee at the prospect. Why was Dio so distrustful of people here? Everyone was so willing to share food with them at the drop of a hat, yet every single time it took Gio aback and made him feel all sort of warm, fuzzy things deep within, to the point he practically lunged at the spadamon right there and then for a hug, but thought better about it and simply shook his hand rapidly in a rather one sided handshake. "Thanks a ton mister, really!"
"Got it, Kittsu...Kittsuman...Kitts..." He clearly struggled with being able to get the full name out, so he simply went for the easiest possible solution to his predicament: brevity. "Kitt! My name's Gio and the pleasure is mine." He gave what could only be described as a respectful bow.

Kitt looked at the bait attached to the end of the hook and gave an amused smile. Perhaps it did look a bit convincing if one only gave it a quick glance. Assuming that the Guilmon-X was running on an empty stomach, he wouldn’t exactly blame him for thinking that. Hunger can lead others to do desperate things, a thing he knows all too well.
But nevertheless, the fishing rod wasn’t damaged all too badly; only the hook was a little bit crooked, but nonetheless still usable. He’ll make a reminder to ask Toki to teach him how to repair it when he comes back.
Kitt gave a nodding approval. His eyes widened as the Guilmon-X leaped up to the dock and shook his hand wildly. He felt his whole body moving up and down, which left his arm feeling a tingling sensation. “Y-you’re welcome, sir,” he said , shaking the pain away and smiled at the Guilmon-X. Now that he was this close to him, he couldn’t help but stare up at him. He was huge in addition to his docile nature, nearly the same size as Toki. The Spadamon was lucky that he’d offer to help him gather some fish, otherwise he might as well see him as lunch. Kitt shutter at the idea.
He couldn’t help but chuckle nervously at Gio trying to pronounce his name, calling him Kitt for short. It was a rather long name, but it was his own special calling, something that he had just recently remembered. “It’s really nice to meet you, Gio,” he said, returning the bow. Placing another bait on the end of the hook, he cast the line again, landing a couple of feet into the water from them. Now waiting for a bite, he’d thought it’d be a good idea to strike up a conversation with him, despite not being very good at it.
“S-so…what brings you out here, Mr. Gio, besides looking for food,” he asked.

As Kitt cast his line once more, Gio plopped down next to him, legs and long tail hanging by the edge of the docks as he stared intently at the water. He couldn't understand how anyone could have this amount of patience to wait for a meal, let alone understand those weirdoes that did this for fun. Kitt's ensuing question stopped that train of thought however, as he glanced back at the spadamon for a moment, then back to the water as he mulled on his answer.
"Hmm, no real reason. We just wandered into here with Dio and he decided to take a nap, so I figured I'd go get something to eat." His eyes widened slightly, as he suddenly remembered something. "Oh right! Dio's my little brother...well, tiny brother really, he says he's the oldest but I don't know how he knows that. He's real smart though so he's probably right." He shrugged, clearly not entirely sure himself, but not particularly bothered about it either. "How about you Kitt? Did you come here just to fish?"
Speaking of tiny, he couldn't help but notice how small Kitt also was, almost the same size as his own impish brother. But there was something else that was hard to ignore: he wasn't just smaller, he was considerably thinner. Too thin. Not unlike how they were during the harsher, less fortunate months roaming the Dark Area. It was hard to get food there as is, harder still to get it consistently.
Perhaps it was this association that seemed to light up something in Gio's brain, a deeper sort of empathy for someone that likely had been in a similar situation. Maybe he was jumping the gun though, so it warranted asking first.
"Uhm...not to be nosy mister Kitt...but you look a bit hungry yourself."

Gio replied that he and another Digimon named Dio were just wandering around here with the latter deciding to take a nap while he went out searching for food.
“Hmm, brother…” Kitt seemed a little taken aback by that word and began to think. The flowing blue water filled his entire vision, and soon enough he felt as though he were drifting through it. He didn’t know why, but there was something familiar about that word. He knew what the word meant, but he heard it from somewhere before. When and where, he didn’t know. His train of thought was interrupted when Gio asked him why he was out here, and Kitt was surprised that he was curious about him.
“Oh, umm, yes. I’ve been staying in this forest with other friendly Digimon recently. This lake has an abundance of tasty fish, so I figured to just catch some food, cook it up, and eat them alongside my friends.” Kitt explained. “I want to express my gratitude to them— for welcoming me into their sanctuary with open arms. I didn’t think there were other Digimon here when I first came to this world. I was by myself, alone and scared, not knowing if I was going to eat that day." He looked up to Gio. “But I guess now I don’t have to worry about that anymore,” he smiled.
The Guilmon-X expressed a bit of concern with the Spadamon’s overall physique. Before he could answer, he felt a strong tug from his line, alerting him. “Woah! I think I got a bite!” He got up to his feet and started to reel it in, though the fish wouldn’t give up without a fight. It went wildly in all directions, making Kitt turn along with it to ease tension on the line. He knew for certain that this fish was big, really big, and he alone wasn’t strong enough to pull it in.
“H-Hey, Mr. Gio! Can you help me pull this one in,” he asked. “This one’s pretty big, and I don’t want my only line to snap.”

"That sounds like a great idea, actually. I'm sure your friends would love that." After all, who didn't like fish? It made him ponder if he should do the same eventually however. So many humans and digimon had done plenty to give both him and Dio shelter and support, surely there was something he could do to repay them. "I get that, me and Dio didn't really have a place to stay at when we first came around. We got by fine eating from these big bins humans have everywher...but apparently that was trash and we shouldn't have been eating from there?" He scratched the back of his neck, still not entirely convinced on that. Those "battery" things human threw about were pretty juicy after all!
"But but! We met a bunch of really nice humans and digimon too that invited us to eat and sleep in their home, so it's all working out for us now!" He gave Kitt's back a friendly pat that was about as proportionally strong as Gio was tall, hopefully he wouldn't lose his grip on the line with that. "Exactly! If you keep going and don't stop, things can be good." Wallowing in sadness and misery was easier sure, but it didn't get you anywhere. That was something he had learned fairly early in his life, and he held onto it as much as hard as he possibly could. Could you blame him? It clearly had worked so far.
There would be plenty of time to talk life philosophy and worry if Kitt was eating properly however, as he finally got a proper catch on his line. "You got this mister Kittamari!" Gio cheered from the sidelines, tail wagging this way and that in excitement, at least until the Spadamon asked for help. Without a second's hesitation the lizard moved, but instead of going to the Spadamon's side he jumped directly off the pier and back into the water, a large splash of water left in his wake as he dissapeared under the surface.
Kitt would probably feel the line tugging even harder for a moment or two, but it would soon come to as stop at the same time a faint red glow could be seen just happening underneath the surface of the lake. Not long after that, the guilmon would emerge back again, a proud and content smile on his face.
"We got him, sir!" He proclaimed, lifting one arm above his head as he waved the recently caught fish that was still pierced by his partially glowing claws. As Gio made his way back up the dock and carefully handed the catch to Kitt, a very faint smell of partially roasted fish could be felt seeping out of where the fish had been stabbed. "We make a great team, huh?"
