Setting the Mood
The year is 2052, and technology as a whole has advanced in leaps and bounds in the past years. Set in the fictional Lumen City in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, citizens and tourists alike are treated to a dazzling display of tall buildings and neon lights, sprawling districts of orderly chaos, holograms that are incorporated into day-to-day life in the city, and more! The city stands as one of the go-to tourists spots for anyone who wishes to see the newest technological marvels that the world has to offer - and rarely does it ever disappoint!
And even for those who don't live in the city - such as those who live in the nearby sleepy town of Goldenview - there exists a number of ways for people to get a taste of how far technology has come. The Neoscape exists as a virtual reality equivalent to the internet, allowing people to interact with one another in person no matter how far away they live from one another - and even in the real world, there are augmented reality glasses or goggles, always with you even when you're on the go!
However, with the advancement of technology, there are also the whispers that come with it, passed around online chatrooms and whispered in school hallways. Rumors of holograms behaving in unusual ways, or even being where they're not supposed to be. Tales of people who go into Neoscape and/or delve too deeply into it's Dark Web equivalent - Dark Matter spaces - and fall into comas, or even disappear completely. Of course, these are only rumors and myths - it's easy for false info to be created and spread around, and it isn't like art or music programs haven't made advancements of their own...
... But what if - just what if - these stories were truer than anyone expected? What if - with all of these advancements - humanity has begun to graze the boundaries of another world entirely? And what if that other world has begun to take notice..?
Welcome, to the world of Digimon: Future Shock.
