Thank you all so much for coming along with us for the soft open! We're already looking at a surprisingly solid base for a brand new website, and it's been a blast stretching our creative muscles and writing with old friends. But I think it's time we kick this site into gear, and what better way to do this than with new stories, new friends, and new memories to make together?
That's right, everyone. It's finally time for our hard open, and with it not one but two inaugural events!
First we have our IC event. This is going to be the Lumen City expo, the grandest showcase of technology, informatics, and futurism the world has ever seen. Think of it like the return of the World's Fairs, a great combination of a festival and an exhibition, with plenty of attractions for characters to check out, explore, and even experience. Each subforum will have a thread dedicated to the Expo. This isn't a formal staff-run event thread, so much as us posting up a scenario prompt and your characters choosing to engage with it in any way they please. Think of this like the thread matchmakers some sites have, but with less randomness involved. You'll have about a week to sign up for these: the threads go live next Saturday, 12/18.
The prompts are as follows:
Metro District - Main Stage: As the central hub of the city, the Metro District is also the central hub of the festivities. The main stage, set up in the city's square, is lit up with live musical performances, elaborate light shows in the sky, and some of the grandest, most top-secret technological reveals. Whether eager to explore the cutting edge of the technological world, or just grabbing food from the many nearby stalls and enjoying the show, you never know what surprises await you here!
Diamond District - The Future At Your Fingertips: The Gran Lumen Megaplex is home to maybe the most surprising part of the expo: holograms you can touch? With the aid of special gloves and boots, particularly strong photonic have brought Lumen City a step closer towards hardlight technology. A variety of demo stations are available in the Megaplex, including simple animatronics made entirely from hardlight and arcade games brought into the real world through hologram technology. However, the most daring and fascinating of these has to be an entire obstacle course made of holograms.
Diamond District - Seaside 2.0: When the Expo rolled in, the owners of Port Starboard's seaside fairgrounds took one look and said "challenge accepted." Hologram technology and VR integration have taken humble fairground rides and transformed them into stylish, immersive experiences, making even simple bumper cars or a ferris wheel into something exciting and new. The pier also allows for a perfect view of Lumen City from a distance, capturing the beauty and excitement of the expo from afar.
Collegetown District - Lumenjam 205X: Lumen City's best and brightest minds might be on the main stage, but its future is here in the Collegetown District. And this future is hungry! Experiments of all kinds abound through the district as various clubs, classes, and teams put their projects on display. These have been the product of countless workweeks, and the competition is fierce, but everyone's sending their creations off with a smile. Here, one can enjoy some of the most eclectic combinations of activities in the entire expo, including the products of many game jams, piloting fighting robots, speaking with freshly-coded AI, and the famous "who can make the worst program that still technically works" competition.
Estate District - State of the Art: Arts and culture are at the heart of the Estate District. While they may seem distinct from technology, the two can actually be married in quite a few ways. Exhibitions in the Estate District's Galleria allow guests to combine the two firsthand, programming color-changing outfits, performing acts of holographic art restoration, and even getting up close and personal with detailed models of natural phenomena. However, the real highlight has to be the Wonderwand, a simple pen-shaped object that allows its holder to literally draw in the air.
Deep Lumen - Biggest Block Party Ever: Deep Lumen's actual role in the expo is to highlight how hologram technology can improve safety and workplace life. But, screw it. The inhabitants of Deep Lumen have seen enough factories for one lifetime. While investors ooh and aah at all that junk, the district's come together to push for the record of the world's biggest block party! The music pounds loud and proud through the air as, for just one night, the Underground is magnified and put on display for all to see.
Neoscape - 25th Anniversary Toast: Neoscape may have never replaced the internet like it was intended to, but that doesn't mean its users aren't fiercely proud of it. For the service's 25th anniversary, a little festival of its own has been set up within the service. 25 years of its history can be explored here, including formerly-defunct games, archival copies of some of its most well-known hotspots, and enough bandwidth for members old and new to come together and reminisce. It's also home to some incredibly close-up views of the expo, fleets of drones recording exhibitions and presentations with more closeness and clarity than ever before.
Goldenview - Goldenview Cultural Festival: Even many of Goldenview's inhabitants have made their way over to Lumen to celebrate, but that doesn't mean everyone's become city folk for the day. For those who want to get away from all the hustle and bustle and just rest the day away, there are few events more relaxed than Goldenview's own cultural festival. It's far from stodgy, though; outdoor games, local talent shows, and maybe the biggest showcase of local delicacies in the entire pacific northwest mean there's a lot to experience here.
Goldenview - Krampus Khase: For those who want to marry the cozy environment of Goldenview and the greater Lumen City experience, you won't be left wanting. A haunted hayride attraction nestled between holidays promises thrills and chills (literally, in some cases!), hurtling through fields and woods alike in a frantic escape from the unknown. Test audiences have rated the integration of holograms into the natural environment as surprisingly seamless, leaving many thrill seekers' attentions piqued.
Sounds like a pretty great festival, huh? And we can assure you, everything is set up to be as safe and sound as possible. This may be the densest gathering of electronics and information to ever be on display, but no technical issues or blackouts will mar such a momentous occasion!
Feel free to register your character for the top three that interest you. We'll make sure to sort things out so everyone gets their preferences, one way or another.
Secondly, we will be having our ad contest! This is, thankfully, a lot easier to explain. Post ads, receive Memory for your characters to spend on site.
Each member can post up to 20 ads, and each ad is worth 50 memory. That's a total of 1,000 memory if you've posted up every ad you can. If it seems like everyone's filled up early and is chomping at the bit for more, we might open up the totals more, but for the time being we feel like this will give everyone a chance to max out instead of being trampled over from the start by particularly quick posters.
If your ad brings in a member, both you and that member will receive 250 memory! Consider this a thanks from us for introducing us to someone new.
This contest only has three rules:
A) Do not post an ad on a site someone's already posted an ad on. B) Do not post ads on sites that flat-out forbid us from posting ads (for example, sites that say "no Proboards ads" or "no fandom site ads") C) Do not post ads on other Digimon sites. I don't want to be poaching any members.
Other than that, you're free to do whatever. The contest will last for the week, ending on 12/19 and coinciding with the kickoff of our events.
Finally, we have a reward for everyone who joins before the events start. The first of our holiday cards, and the first Digimon card on site: a Kokatorimon! See how it works in the spoiler below:
Name: Kokatorimon - Petra FireDescription: Your Digimon's eyes glow a menacing red as they breathe slate grey flames at their opponent. Slowly but surely, stone begins to form around the unlucky target's body. RAM Cost: 3 Type: Status Effect - Stun Drawbacks: Delayed Effect, Silver Lining (Defense Buff) Duration: 1 Post
We're still eagerly accepting ideas for Digimon cards, and will be introducing them to the site in full once things have settled more around here. Consider this an early preview of how Digimon cards work around here.
